Lovely Yemeni Bawsani Old pair of silver earrings. Circa 1940´
Gorgeous one of a kind jewish Bawsani antique Yemeni Earrings. The filigree is a traditional jewish yemeni technique, done showing the craftsmen expertise.
This design shows a filigree flower, and lovely dangling silver bells to avoid bad spirits. All Yemeni jewellery is used as a talisman to protect the wearer.
The top shows antique Red Mediterranean coral, usually present in jewish yemeni pieces as it´s believed that it purifies the blood and protects from bleeding. The coral found in Yemen comes from the times of the trade with Levante area, when Yemen exported coffe beans, and received Red Italian Coral as payment.

Gorgeous vintage Toaq from Afghanistan.
Vintage spectacular toaq from Afghanistan, made of old mixed metals showing different techniques. Hammer work, engraved, embossed, chased, all nicely done in a complex and huge piece.
All the necklace is decorated with old glass stones in red, green and blue. The long dangling musical beads are related to the talismanic value of the piece. It´s believed that their sound when the woman walks or moves, keep the bad spirits away.
This piece will make a notorious beautiful necklace or a gorgeous piece to hang on your wall.

Tekke Old Turkoman Cuff pair.
Gorgeous pair of antique Tekke Turkoman cuff metal bracelets with layered gold and old glass cabochon. The tribal deco made with gold shows vegetal motifs, symbols from the preislamic times, where turkmen had animistic believes.
The turkmen jewellery expresses the women status on the tribe and also her marital state.
Measures are 323 grms. Height 7,5 cm. Note that due to the age of the cuffs, one has a little repair inside.

Antique Central Asia Silver Fire Gilded Necklace.
One of a kind pieces from my collection, a wonderful Old Silver Necklace, probably coming from North Afghan Uzbek group. This piece has been made in the first half of the XX century.
This piece has an amuletic value. Central Asia women have the pre-islamic tradition of carrying amulets to protect themselves. Also jewellery has an enormous financial importance for the women and refers to her status on the society.
The colorful glass backing in burgundy colour, and the center of the pendant with false granulation can be classified as Kazak style. The fire gilding applique in all the pendants, made with gold dust, gives the piece a superbe elegant style.
Measures are: 134 grms, total length 66 cm. The big central pendant is 6cm by 7 cm width.

Old bedouin silver necklace from Yemen.
Gorgeous old bedouin necklace, handmade with coins belonging to an old Yemeni belt. Entirely made of old silver, usually obtained from melting Maria Theresia Thalers.
The Yemeni men, in their traditional costume on the north, they used a belt with an extense decoration, made of coin holders, coins, khol bottles, and the usual djambiya.
This piece has been made of old beads in the old center of Sana´a, Yemen. The beads are around 70 years old.
Measures: 36 grms, 39 cm length, and the biggest coins is 3 cm diameter.

Antique Turkoman Tekke Amulet Holder.
Unique old turkoman Tekke tribe amulet, used to keep sacred texts to protect the wearer from disease, evil eye and spirits. This holder may have carried Koran passages, the 99 names of God, or magical words. This piece is made of high purity silver, the chain also. This piece is about 70 years old.
The decoration is finely made with fire gilding applique, using gold powder; and cornelian stones. The use of cornelians or “Blood stone”, is believed to protect from bleeding, wounds and miscarriages.
We can find a similar piece on the book ” The Arts and Crafts of Turkestan”, page 128.
Measures are: 112 grs, the amulet is 14 cm with the dangling beads by 9 cm widht.

Turkoman Hamza with agate bead.
Here we have a gorgeous actual turkoman jewel made of alpaka, agate and turquoise beads.
The hamzas or named, they are used as a protective symbol for the women and also for the houses. Hamzas have been used as a talisman since ancient times by all the Mediterranean communities. It´s a shared symbol for jewish and muslim population.

Superbe Antique Yemeni Hadrami Bedouin Bracelet.
Superbe Yemeni Antique Bracelet from the East of Yemen, the region of Hadramout. The geometric style of the deco is classic from the region. On the top and the sides, three prominent buttons, very common on Bedouin pieces.
Is made of brass showing a beautiful wheat colour. This bracelet was collected in the region of Wadi Doan on my last trip to Yemen. The age of the piece I estimate can be more than 60 years, it certainly shows signs of being worn.
The bracelet weighs 295 grms, and it measures: inner diameter 6 cm, width 7 cm.

The jewish bride of Sana´a wore a set of rings, which was part of the nuptial outfit. It was custom for the groom to present a box with a set of rings, that she will wear when receiving guests after childbirth.
The decoration is made using the filigree technique.
The Bawsani is a family of silversmiths used to live in Yemen in the XIX century and in the early XX century.Their work is very appreciated in the Yemeni Silver.

Antique Hallmarked Bedihi Silver beads and Mediterranean Red Coral necklace
Gorgeous necklace made of antique beads of silver and Mediterranean red coral. A total beauty! The silver beads are Antique Yemeni Bedihi beads. The Bedihi family was one of the most famous of Yemeni Jewish jewellers in the last two centuries. Their exquisite granulation work, the berry beads and the dugag cylinder beads show the expertise of these jewellers. The main dugag beads are all hallmarked by the artist. All Yemeni jewels hallmarked are from before 1940.
It´s a lovely design with a lot of historical information and great value, as antique red coral is always raising its price. This necklace can be worn by women or men also, it´s long enough!The beads of coral are originary from the marine fields around Sicily, Antique
Mediterranean Red Coral is untreated and undyed. In the times of the Levante trade, Yemen used to receive red coral as payment for the coffe beans, as well as Maria Theresia Thaler. The culture in Yemen gives a huge value to the Red Coral, it has been used on the traditional jewels for centuries, as part of the marriage necklaces also. It´s a symbol of protection, fertility and against the evil eye. The coral beads on this necklace are around 150- 200 years.

Beautiful necklace made mixing different antique beads. The berry beads are antique Bedihi yemen silver, and the red coral is antique coral from the Mediterranean Sea. The coral is around 150- 200 years old, undyed, untreated and with a bright orange carmin colour.In the times of the Coffe Trade in the Levante area, Yemen used to receive italian red coral and silver Maria Theresia Thaler as payment for the trade of coffe beans. The port of Mokha was the main port in the Tihama area, where the coffe was planted and harvested. The red coral in Yemen was used as part of the dowry, being part 0f all traditional jewels worn on marriages, and later in special occasions like a new baby born. It had high value since ancient times as a symbol of protection and fertility.
The silver hamza was sourced from South Morocco and it´s beautifully engraved, showing hebrew sacred script.
